Trinamool Congress won’t share seats with Congress unless they sever connections with CPIM, according to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Kolkata: Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, stated on Wednesday that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) will not share seats in the Lok Sabha with the Congress until they are in line with the CPIM in the state.
“I informed Congress that the state assembly is devoid of any legislators. I promised to make sure they won the two Lok Sabha seats when I handed them to them. Refusing, they demanded additional seats. I assured them that I would not spare a single seat. First, I requested them to sever their connection to the CPIM. Speaking to a crowd in the Malda area, Banerjee stated, “I haven’t forgotten how the CPIM tortured our men.”
As of January 29, the chief minister is visiting both north and south Bengali districts. She spoke at two public gatherings and two road rallies on Wednesday in the former Congress strongholds of Malda and Murshidabad.
“The chief BJP agent is the CPIM. We had a strong relationship with the Congress. The CPIM has caused it to worsen,” she stated in Murshidabad.
“I intended to give the Congress two seats. They declined. How many do they want, I asked? forty-two of the forty-two seats? The BJP would take over Bengal and they would lose all 42. This is not going to happen. I withdrew because I refused to shake hands with the CPIM. I’m brave enough to take on the BJP,” she continued.
The TMC head had said on January 24 that her party will stand alone for all 42 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal. Her remarks followed reports that she had been waiting more than a month to hear back from the Congress over her offer on December 19 to run for two seats, Malda Dakshin and Berhampore, which the Congress had won in 2019.
“I intended to give the Congress two seats. They declined. How many do they want, I asked? forty-two of the forty-two seats? The BJP would take over Bengal and they would lose all 42. She had previously joined the BJP government and had held significant positions. Since 2014, Banerjee has not rejected any of the measures that the Narendra Modi administration has presented. In order to split non-BJP votes and aid the BJP, her party invested millions of rupees in contests in several states. The leader of the CPIM, Tanmoy Bhattacharya, stated, “We view the TMC and BJP as synonymous.”
“Why would she host alliance meetings and have dinner with the CPIM if she has such intense animosity against them? First of all, why had she joined the INDIA alliance? In reality, she believed that she would have command over the INDIA alliance. However, she started making these claims after realizing that the CPIM and the Congress controlled the coalition, according to BJP leader Rahul Sinha.
