Rhythm Sangwan won a bronze medal in the 25-meter sports pistol competition at the Asia Qualifiers in Jakarta on Thursday, making history as the 16th Indian shooter to earn a spot in the Paris Olympics. India now has the most quota spots for the July–August Games because to Rhythm’s qualifying; the previous record was set in 2020 in Tokyo, when the nation sent 15 shooters. Following their wins on Monday in the 10m air pistol women’s and men’s divisions, Esha Singh and Varun Tomar now hold the third Olympic quota berth for India.
The Haryana native Rhythm, 20, fired 28 in the final to settle for bronze. Rhythm, together with Esha and Manu Bhaker, was a member of the team that won the gold medal in the 25m sports pistol at the Hangzhou Asian Games last year.
However, her third-place result was sufficient to earn the nation’s Paris quota.
With a score of 41, Yang Jiin of China won the gold, followed by Kim Yeji of Korea in second place with 32 points.
With Esha winning the gold in the 10m air pistol event on Monday, Rhythm has now earned three medals in the current Asian Olympic Qualifiers. Alongside Arjun Singh Cheema, she also won the mixed team silver in the 10m air pistol.
After Pakistan’s Kishmala Talat defeated her to win the silver medal in the 10m air pistol on Monday, Rhythm missed out on an Olympic quota spot. However, on Thursday, she was relieved to get the monkey off her shoulders.
Rhythm also gave gratitude to Vineet Kumar, her personal coach, for her achievement in the Asia Olympic Qualifiers.
After the game, Rhythm remarked, “I am really happy that I won the bronze medal and could win the quota for my country.”
“I want to express my gratitude to Vineet Kumar, my personal coach. I am here today entirely because to him. Additionally, I want to express my gratitude to all of my followers,” the amiable gunman remarked.
When asked which of the three medals she was most proud of, Rhythm replied that while she was proud of all of them, the bronze on Thursday also helped India meet its Olympic quota, which made it extra memorable.
“I believe that each of these three medals has a particular place in my heart. However, there is a particular space for it because, well, I might accomplish something for my nation and get the quota. “Thank you, Vineet sir. May your blessings continue,” she said.
