Suryakumar Yadav is scheduled to return to the Mumbai Indians’ IPL squad in 2024. According to Cricbuzz, he has obtained approval from the National Cricket Academy and is scheduled to join the team on Friday, April 5.
The top-ranked T20I batsman last played competitive cricket in December 2023, when he hit a century in the third T20I against South Africa. However, during that series, he experienced a grade 2 ankle rupture, which required surgery. Suryakumar then had surgery to repair a sports hernia, which extended his recuperation at the NCA facility in Bengaluru.
Now, the 33-year-old will rejoin with the Mumbai Indians for their practice session at Wankhede Stadium. His participation in the forthcoming encounter against the Delhi Capitals on April 7 would be contingent on his fitness evaluation during the net session.
The Mumbai Indians have had a difficult start to the season under new skipper Hardik Pandya, with three consecutive losses. With defeats against Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad at home, they also stumbled in their first home encounter against the Rajasthan Royals earlier this week.
