Why did the former Union minister Milind Deora resign from Congress?
On Sunday afternoon, Milind Deora will join the Shiv Sena, which is led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
Milind Deora was upset that the Mumbai South seat would go to the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena under the Maha Vikas Aghadi seat-sharing mechanism. Deora has lost two straight Lok Sabha elections to Arvind Sawant of the Shiv Sena in 2014 and 2019. Former Union minister Milind Deora announced on Sunday that he has left the Congress as a main member.

The former South Mumbai Lok Sabha MP said, “Today marks the conclusion of a significant chapter in my political journey,” in a post on the social networking site X, previously known as Twitter. My family’s 55-year affiliation with the party has come to an end as I have tendered my resignation from the main membership of the Congress. I am appreciative to all the leaders, associates, and karyakartas for their steadfast support throughout the years.
On Sunday afternoon, Deora will join the Shiv Sena, which is led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. This comes at a time when political circles have been abuzz with rumors for the past several days that Deora is going to join the Sena group. However, Deora disregarded the rumors on Saturday, calling them “rumours,” that he was leaving and going to join the Shiv Sena, which is run by Eknath Shinde. Reporters were also informed by him that he is in talks with his followers.
In the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Shiv Sena (UBT), led by Uddhav Thackeray, has declared its intention to challenge for the Mumbai South seat, which was held by Deora before to 2014.
Deora stated in a video message released on Sunday that his party would also be able to declare candidates for seats if the “alliance partner” continued to make similar claims.
In the Maha Vikas Aghadi, the Nationalist Congress Party under Sharad Pawar’s leadership and the Congress have the Shiv Sena (UBT) as an alliance partner.
Arvind Sawant of the unified Shiv Sena, who is currently a member of the Thackeray group, had beaten Deora in the Lok Sabha elections of 2014 and 2019. Deora was also the head of the Mumbai Congress before.
