On February 19, President Droupadi Murmu will travel to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Port Blair, Feb. 10 (PTI) – An official said on Saturday that President Droupadi Murmu will be visiting the Andaman and Nicobar Islands for five days, starting on February 19.
Murmu’s first trip to the archipelago after taking office as India’s president in 2022 will be this one.
On February 19, the president is scheduled to arrive at INS Utkrosh in Port Blair at about 1:00 pm. Upon arrival, she would be greeted by top authorities, Air Marshal Saju Balakrishnan, Lt Governor Admiral (Retd) D K Joshi, and the Commander-in-Chief of Andaman and Nicobar Command (CINCAN).
The president will visit Cellular Jail, Campbell Bay, Indira Point (the southernmost point of India), Swaraj Dweep, also known as Havelock Islands, and interact with various communities and officials during her visit to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from February 19 to 23. This will provide her firsthand knowledge of the island.
Additionally, she will visit Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Dweep, formerly known as Ross Island, where she will receive an update on the planned construction of a National Memorial from Nandini Paliwal, the managing director of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Integrated Development Corporation Limited (ANIIDCO).
Additionally, a special screening of Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan and a video presentation on Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG) in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are scheduled. Additionally, the president will discuss a range of topics with the tribal community.
Ahead of the president’s planned visit to the archipelago, security has been stepped up in the union territory.
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), Unmanned Aerial Systems Solutions (UASS), microlight aircraft, remotely piloted aircraft, hot air balloons, small-size powered aircraft, Chinese lanterns, quadcopters, and even paragliding from aircraft are all forbidden by the security agencies from being used on the islands.
