Sitharaman’s ‘Ayodhya’ reference for free power for homes in the budget of 2024
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated on Thursday that the Budget 2024 contains a rooftop solarization initiative, which is motivated by PM Modi’s vision.
During her presentation of the Union Budget 2024 in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman enumerated the advantages of the rooftop solarization initiative. She also mentioned the Ayodhya consecration event, saying the plan is in line with the Prime Minister’s determination.
“One crore families will be able to receive up to 300 units of free electricity per month through roof-top solarization. The Minister of Finance said, “This plan reflects the determination of the Prime Minister on the historic day of the consecration of Shri Ram Mandir in Ayodhya (January 22).”
Sitharaman’s allusion coincided with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement that “all devotees of the world get energy from the light of Suryavanshi Lord Shri Ram” following his return to Delhi from Ayodhya.
The Pradhanmantri Suryodaya Yojana, which aims to install rooftop solar on one crore residences, was also introduced by PM Modi.
“After coming back from Ayodhya, I decided that our government should start the ‘Pradhanmantri Suryodaya Yojana,’ with the goal of equipping one crore homes with solar panels on their rooftops. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had tweeted on X, saying, “This will not only lower the electricity bills of the poor and middle class, but also make India self-reliant in the field of energy.”
During her budget speech, the Finance Minister revealed that homes can receive free solar electricity and sell the excess to distribution firms for an annual savings of up to ₹ 18,000.
She added that the programme is anticipated to foster business and job possibilities in addition to helping households save money.
