Last week, the Rohit Sharma-led visiting team lost the first game of the two-match encounter in Centurion by an innings and 32 runs, shattering Team India’s hopes of crossing their last frontier. They haven’t lost the series yet, though. A few Indian players were seen at the training nets in Newlands on New Year’s Day, with two days to go before the match’s final match in Cape Town. Even though it was a voluntary net session, former India captain Virat Kohli was seen playing aggressively.

Since their first tour of South Africa in 1992, India has never won a Test series there. Eight Test series were played in South Africa. The 2023–2024 competition was thought to be India’s best opportunity to break their unwelcome trend. But after a brilliant display from Kagiso Rabada and rookie Nandre Burger, India was folded for just 245 and 131 in two innings, and the match was over in three days.
