On its first day, Merry Christmas made ₹2.55 crore [₹2.3 crore in Hindi, ₹22 lakh in Tamil, and ₹3 lakh in Telugu]. According to preliminary estimates, the movie made ₹3.50 crore nett in India on its second day, across all languages. The movie has made ₹6.05 crore so far. The movie stars Vinay Pathak, Sanjay Kapoor, Tinnu Anand, and Pratima Kannan in the Hindi version. Shanmugaraja, Radhika Sarathkumar, Rajesh Williams, and Kevin Jay Babu play the same parts in the Tamil version.

“Vijay delivers a standout performance, so flawless that you can’t figure out if he was actually playing the character or just being himself,” said the Dailydignews in their review of the movie. It’s great to see him in this more subdued image after the villain in Jawan. Katrina is beyond class. Her facial expressions, posture, and controlled demeanor prevented her from taking over the role. Her emotional sequences were a little shaky, but overall, she does a good job at maintaining the necessary air of mystery about her persona. I adored that Raghavan refrained from too flashy or sensualizing his characters. You perceive a certain simplicity in both the plot and the character drawings.”
On collaborating with Vijay, Katrina
News agency ANI said that Katrina had earlier declared, on her collaboration with Vijay Sethupathi, that “Vijay is the best performer.” During the first week of rehearsals, I found myself observing his thought process and how he handled each scenario. We had a lengthy talk and Sriram Sir allowed the actors plenty of space before we started filming. When I watched the conclusion, I was startled by what I saw between Vijay and my character.”
In addition to praising Katrina, Vijay remarked, “She has been in the business for a long time, so I was a little worried about how she would act on the set since it’s hard to deal with an actor who has an attitude. When I first met her, it was at Sriram Sir’s office, and we struck up a really positive and wholesome discussion right away. She like to talk and listen more. On the set, there was greater understanding between us.I received so much knowledge and insight from her.”
